Construction Contract Signed With Calder Stewart

The Clutha District War Memorial & Community Centre Charitable Trust is pleased to announce a construction contract for the base build of the Clutha District War Memorial & Community Centre has been signed with construction partner Calder Stewart for $11.114m.

The current post-COVID construction environment in New Zealand has provided significant challenges through the final design stage with an estimated $1.6m attributed purely to COVID related impacts. This has arisen from ongoing cost increases in the construction sector related to freight, material costs and availability.

The Trust has worked hard with the design team over the past few months making changes to the design to reduce capital costs, without compromising the overall facility.

To minimise risk to the project with further price increases being signaled, the Trust entered the contract with Calder Stewart which includes a fixed price for the base build and a provisional sum ( $8.4m ) for fit out.

After ongoing identification and removal of asbestos from the existing facility, site works are scheduled to commence from next week.

The Trust also wish to acknowledge the ongoing support of the Clutha District Council and Crown Infrastructure Partners for their significant contribution to the growth of the district through “Shovel Ready” funding allowing the project to get off the ground.

We look forward to providing updates as things progress and delivering what we believe will be a pivotal asset to the Clutha District.
